I enjoyed looking at them a lot as well as what you had to say about the XE-4. Mine gets here next week paired with the XF27, thats what brought me here 🙂 What film simulation are you using for the 4 photos under “Familiar Image Quality”?

I too bought a secondhand XE2 last year, initially as a gift camera to my stepson for his wedding. Suffices to say he didn’t like it and preferred one of my old Nikon D700s, so I kept it – and I’ve never regretted it, to the point that I recently added an XT2 to the kit. I now have four lenses (14, 18, 23, 18-55) and I marvel not only at how light the entire kit is for my travels in Asia, but how good the results are. As one poster said, professional images are entirely possible with the XEs if one goes about it with care and has the experience to know what one is doing.

Like many more serious photographers (and certainly almost all pros) I shoot mainly RAW, but occasionally JPEGs when I want off-the-cuff images, usually during my haphazard train travels around Victoria state in Australia. The size and portability of the XE range makes it super easy for me to take along my XE2 and two lenses in a small pouch in my backpack, and not only shoot candidly (my fave lenses nowadays are the 18/2.0 and the 18-55) but to shoot candidly and casually, even at passing landscapes I see from train windows. My results so far exceed all my expectations, which for a camera of the XE’s size is nothing short of, well, astounding. .

to me the XEs are probably the best thought out small cameras ever produced – to the point that when I’ve sold off some of my film gear next month and have a little more cash to play with, I will probably buy an XE4 to add to the pile. My Nikon D800 still serves me well, but at my age (>70) portability and ease of use are important factors, and in these two points the XEs deliver way over DSLRs or for that matter any FF mirrorless.

Images I’ve made so far with my XE2 are nothing less than astounding – this is echoed by a publisher client in Europe who has just accepted six of my photographs for a book due out in ’23.

So yes, the proof is in the pudding, and the Fuji pudding is very sweet indeed!! For me, Fujifilm excels, and the XEs excel above all the Fuji line.

Best regards, Dann

I’ve been eyeing up the X-E4 for a while as a more compact replacement for my X-T2, and this may have persuaded me to give it a try… You’ve taken some really beautiful images with the camera too and I’m curious about the film simulations you used for two images in particular; the two orange cocktails on the table, and the roller skater. Do you have any recollection which simulations you used for these? I’d also love to know how you took that abstract shot and what it is (the last batch of images, 3rd from the left on the top row), but that’s another matter!
Thanks again!

Hi Richard. Apologies for the late response. But no, I haven’t noticed any overheating issues at all with the XE4. It stays perfectly cool while taking photos, and I’m sure the same goes for video. But then again I don’t shoot much video at all, so don’t quote me on the second part lol

Have you noticed if the camera gets warm or hot when recording 4k video? I had the X100V and loved that camera but decided to sell it due to it’s overheating problems when recording video, I could only record up to 5-7 mins before it would get very hot and shut down itself. Decided to go to the a7c but I missed the fuji jpeg colors and being able to use fuji recipes for the jpegs since I don’t like to edit photos. With the x-e4’s photo and video ability I’d like to come back to fuji but just worry about that overheating issues with such a small and light camera.
