It rarely works after a decade sitting in a drawer somewhere. They are almost always non-functional by now – I’ve handled dozens of these and seen two that worked as intended.

Insert ‘…But mine works fine!’ below.

Seek out well specced late 90’s/00’s compacts – they’ll last longer.

It had a 35mm 2.8 Ektar lens. The lens is super sharp and the meter always seems to get it right.

Ren Hang used a Minolta 110 Zoom Date ($10?) for ALL his flash images. The specs would tell you this is a horrible camera. Setting the zoom at 38mm, his images belie any specs. The best camera is the one you own. (and hopefully use creatively) BTW, I own that exact camera, and while it’s not great with natural light B&W, it shines in color flash imaging, ala Yashica T4. ๐Ÿ˜Š

It has a 35mm f4 lens, not that fast but I find it works a treat with HP5. On the front of the body is a slider switch for setting the ASA. I believe the shutter runs at 1/125th so itโ€™s pretty easy to create exposure shift with that ASA switch – I assume it alters the aperture. I tend to load with HP5 and set the switch at 200. Contax T4? Gimme a break!

I’m on the market for a small Canon 35mm so will check out the twilight Sure Shot range. Hands down my favourite point and shoot is the Olympus Trip 500. So good I blogged about it here: https://www.johnnyw.uk/post/2018/06/13/compact-camera-club-olympus-trip-500
